In Car Heaven....(you will be missed)!

It was a very difficult decision, but one that I had to make! My old Firebird was hauled off today one last time. It will be laid to rest at a place where cars go to move on to bigger and better things. It's vital parts will be recycled for other cars to use, I will miss you little buddy! Several cross country trips were shared, both east to west and north to south, it was a great car to drive. The most memorable was a dent on the side that resulted from Flint pulling my car in the snow right into a stop sign near my old house in washington! I may or may not have that souvenir with me in the garage.

New Wheels!

Literally...my brother got me a set of wheels for my car. He had been trying to get me to buy them off a buddy of his from work, but since I have been strapped for cash I was kinda waiting for tax time. So I guess I owe him big time again! He was telling me he filled them up with nitrogen since they have a N2 generator at his job. I guess it will be harder for me to do squeely burnouts with slightly bigger/wider tires on the car.

To Be or Not To Be...A Truck!

I was helping Senia's cousin move to his new place just north of downtown Los Angeles when I was pulled over. I was given a ticket for driving the company's pickup truck (F350 stakebed) on the 110 FWY just north of downtown LA. The citation was issued for not following the posted signs of "No Trucks Allowed", which I have never read nor have I ever noticed them since I am not a Truck Driver and don't plan on getting my CDL anytime soon. So I was obviously pissed, but I decided not to argue with the cop and appeal it later.

Somehow the code for that part of the freeway specifies that any vehicle with a GVW of 6000 is not permitted, this is a gray area since it does not specifically mention whether it refers to the curb weight or the GVWR which are two different things. If it is followed based on the GVWR, essentially any pickup truck (F150 for ford, 1500 for GMC) and above would violate this. If it is followed based on the curb weight then I should be OK, but I honestly don't know what the truck weighs. I would assume around 5000lbs based on my limited knowledge of ford trucks.

I plan on fighting this ticket since there are several exceptions to the weight restrictions on roads, since I was moving somebody this would count as one of those exceptions.
